Beginning Legal Secretary Course
MCLPA plans to conduct at least one Beginning Legal Secretary course annually. These courses are taught by guest speakers and qualified members of MCLPA who have obtained their California Certified Legal Secretary certification and/or have worked in law offices for at least ten years.
The courses include one night of class per week (two hours per night) and are designed for the legal secretary-to-be with little or no experience but who are currently working in a law office or law-related office, or the experienced secretary needing refresher courses.
The courses are instructed with the use of the Law Office Procedures Manual, which is written by members of LPI and published by The Rutter Group. The course covers: Introduction to the Law Office; Civil Litigation Procedures, Legal Citations; Calendaring/Docketing; Preparation and Service of Legal Documents; Court Systems/Structure/Rules of Court; and Legal Terminology.
